چکیده

Abstract Polycrystalline nickel‐based superalloys experience accelerated intergranular crack growth when exposed to dwell times in oxygen‐rich environments and a combination of high temperature tensile mechanical loading. Increasing rates are observed for increasing amounts environmental oxygen certain concentration range, while below above that range remain approximately constant. A fully coupled chemo‐mechanical modeling framework accounting the degradation grain boundaries by has been presented authors. In this work, we expand moving boundary condition capture realistic flux cracks both edge connected environment interior cracks. numerical simulation results, behavior is shown propagation through polycrystal subjected cyclic Finally, capabilities qualitatively predict dependence average rate on content, load level, time evaluated it predictions agree with experimental observations fracture.

Branching mechanism of intergranular crack propagation in three dimensions.

We investigate the process of slow intergranular crack propagation by the finite element method model and show that branching is induced by partial arresting of a crack front owing to the geometrical randomness of grain boundaries. A possible scenario for the branching instability of crack propagation in a disordered continuous medium is also discussed.

Corrosion pitting and environmentally assisted small crack growth.

In many applications, corrosion pits act as precursors to cracking, but qualitative and quantitative prediction of damage evolution has been hampered by lack of insights into the process by which a crack develops from a pit. An overview is given of recent breakthroughs in characterization and understanding of the pit-to-crack transition using advanced three-dimensional imaging techniques such a...

Stochastic modeling of fatigue crack propagation

This paper presents a stochastic model of fatigue-induced crack propagation in metallic materials. The crack growth rate predicted by the model is guaranteed to be non-negative. The model structure is built upon the underlying principle of Karhunen±Lo eve expansion and does not require solutions of stochastic di€erential equations in either Wiener integral or Itô integral setting. As such this ...

Finite Element Modeling of Delamination Crack Propagation in Laminated Composites

Finite element analysis of the delamination crack propagation in laminated composites is presented. Fracture mechanics based Virtual Crack Closure Technique (VCCT), and the cohesive element technique, have been used to simulate the delamination initiation and propagation under Mode-I type loading. Detailed description of the parameter selection process for these two techniques with ABAQUS®/Stan...

On the crack propagation modeling of hydraulic fracturing by a hybridized displacement discontinuity/boundary collocation method

Numerical methods such as boundary element and finite element methods are widely used for the stress analysis in solid mechanics. This study presents boundary element method based on the displacement discontinuity formulation to solve general problems of interaction between hydraulic fracturing and discontinuities. The crack tip element and a higher order boundary displacement collocation techn...
